Thank You, -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Today''s Teens Style or Not" Nowadays the only style being sought out by consumers is the style of being unique. People everywhere want to wear something that is their own, whether it is putting your name on your shirt or getting your outfits custom made. In order to wear this latest fashion you have to have high self-esteem and be able to deal with standing out in a crowd. It is easier to conform rather than be different, but in the end who is stronger - a person who can stand alone, or a person who follows the crowd? Look around Central Park and you will see many diverse fashions, ranging from hip-hop to hippie to casual. Take a white T-shirt for example: you may think that it would be too boring to wear, but just because it is plain doesn’t mean you can’t wear it in a special way. You can dye it, cut it up, roll up the shirt and make it into the latest trend accessory, or whatever. It all depends on you. You may have heard the expression, "that person makes a potato sack look good." This rings true if you are a person who carries their head high and doesn’t care what others think. Money does not have to be an issue. There are myths that people who are all decked out in designer gear are considered well dressed compared to a person in department store clothing. This isn’t necessarily true. You should feel like a thousand dollars whether or not your outfit is worth the same. As young people, we are often the consumers of whatever the designers claim is hot. Remember that we are putting money in their pockets, not the other way around, so be a cautious consumer when spending your dough. We also might feel pressure from our peers to wear whatever they are wearing. We might feel embarrassed for not having the name of some designer who could be doing who knows what, such as having products produced in sweatshops, or targeting minorities, and trying to get money in their hands rather than the urban communities where a lot of their sales are made. All in all, do not be afraid to do your own thing. Wear whatever you feel comfortable in. Just because everybody and their mother might be sporting a certain trend, it doesn’t mean that you have to too. Also be wary when spending your money. If you aren''t happy with what you bought, the clothing companies may just lose one customer if you decide not to buy something, and someone else will purchase that product if you won’t so the company makes out ok. The customer on the other hand is losing their hard-earned money for something they will probably only use for a month or two until the new thing comes out. Don’t be afraid to be different. You can start the trends and set the standard rather than following it. The designers didn’t come out with their clothing out of nowhere; it is based on looks they may have seen on a person and decided to market that person’s style. Last of all, be you!! That is the best thing anyone can do when dealing with style.
